“The Lord of the Sabbath”

Luke 6:1-5

Then he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the sabbath.”

Luke 6:5 (NRSV)

In this passage, Jesus confronts a rigid interpretation of the sabbath that the Pharisees upheld. For them, the sabbath was a day of strict observance where any work, even the plucking of ears of corn to eat, was considered a violation of the law. However, Jesus shows us that the purpose of the sabbath is not the burden of a law, but rather the blessing and the rest that God desires for his people. Jesus is presented and “the Lord of the Sabbath,” remembering that the law was created for the benefit of humans, not to oppress them. In the story of David we see how human need can override legal interpretation, and Jesus reaffirms this truth.

Jesus calls us to a living faith which is concerned with the real needs of people and which recognizes that He is Lord of each day in our lives.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, may we find in you each day our rest and our strength, and may our actions reflect your grace and your compassion. Amen.

"El Señor del Sábado"

Lucas 6:1-5

Y les decía: El Hijo del Hombre es Señor aun del día de reposo.

En este pasaje, Jesús confronta una interpretación rígida del sábado que los fariseos sostenían. Para ellos, el sábado era un día de estricta observancia, donde cualquier trabajo, incluso el acto de arrancar unas espigas para comer, era considerado una violación de la ley. Sin embargo, Jesús nos muestra que el propósito del sábado no es la carga de una ley, sino la bendición y el descanso que Dios desea para su pueblo. Jesús se presenta como "el Señor del sábado", recordando que la ley fue hecha para beneficiar al ser humano, no para oprimirlo. En la historia de David, vemos cómo la necesidad humana puede estar por encima de la interpretación legalista, y Jesús reafirma esta verdad.

Jesús nos llama a vivir una fe viva, que se preocupa por las necesidades reales de las personas, y que reconoce que Él es el Señor de cada día de nuestra vida.

Oración: Señor Jesús. Que en cada día podamos encontrar en Ti nuestro descanso y nuestra fortaleza, y que nuestras acciones reflejen tu gracia y tu compasión. Amén.
