“Doing Justice”

Luke 18:1-8

In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him, asking, “Give me justice in this case against my adversary.”

Right beside us there are people dealing almost with no strength, without voice, clamoring for justice.

Today we are surrounded by inhumane situations–judges seem to pass by the front, but don’t pay attention. Today there are many examples of these widows who cry for justice against their adversary. Like a fleet of ships in the sea insisting on love, freedom, justice, it is a voice that rises for those who cannot do it, today Gaza is also this widow for which we continue to put all our strengths before the courts, before those who can do something, before those who can offer justice. 

The answer to the widow does not arrive immediately, but she was persistent, she did not give up. As Christians we are called to lift our voices for those who cannot use theirs, we are called not to pass by injustices and remain silent, we are called to pray and to accompany those in these situations, even when part of the time we are also widows, crying for God. 

We should not surrender ourselves nor lose faith even when the answers seem to be slow. Constant prayer strengthens our link with God. The example of the widow shows us that prayer is not only asking, but also maintaining a constant relationship with God, trusting that God will work on God’s time.

Prayer: God, in you we trust, despite the visible injustices that are so palpable. We know that you are just and that you hear us. Bring to our life the hope in your justice. Amen.

“Hacer justicia”

A nuestro lado hay personas lidiando casi sin fuerzas, sin voz, de clamar justicia

Hoy nos rodeados de situaciones inhumanas, los jueces parece que pasan por el frente, pero no hacen caso, hoy hay muchos ejemplos de estas viudas que claman justicia contra su adversario. Una flotilla de barcos en el mar insistiendo en el amor, en la libertad, en lo justo, es una voz que se levanta por lo que no pueden hacerlo, hoy Gaza es también esa viuda por la que seguimos poniendo toda la fuerza de nuestra garganta ante los juzgados, ante los que pueden hacer algo, ante los que pueden ofrecer justicia.

La respuesta de la viuda no llegó inmediatamente, pero ella fue persistente, no desmayó. Como cristianas y cristianos tenemos el llamado a levantar la voz por lo que no se les permite, a no pasar por el enfrente de las injusticias y guardar silencio, a orar, acompañar estas situaciones, aun cuando parte del tiempo somos también viudos, clamando a Dios.

No debemos rendirnos ni perder la fe aunque las respuestas parezcan tardar. La oración constante fortalece nuestro vínculo con Dios. Este ejemplo nos muestra que la oración no es solo pedir, sino mantener una relación constante con Dios, confiando en que Él obra en su tiempo.

Oración: Dios en ti confiamos, a pesar de las injusticias visibles, palpables, sabemos que eres justo y que nos escuchas y traes a nuestra vida la confianza en tu justicia. Amén.
