Anniversary of the IPR of Palos

INSIDE AND OUTSIDE

Luke 11: 37-41

You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.

Luke 11:39

Jesus enters the house of a Pharisee and, without following the ritual of washing his hands, reveals something much deeper: the cleansing of true life in God is not on the outside or in appearances, it is a cleansing from within, from the soul.

It’s not enough to comply with external norms that shape our humanity if we are full of selfishness, greed, and indifference. We lose our lives when we feed ourselves superficially by what we see and not by what we feel. The ritual that truly purifies is the act of sharing, of serving with humility, of doing justice, and of truly loving.

We are foolish if we believe that God only looks at us on the outside. We still have time to deepen our physical cleansing and do it inwardly, to go inside our being and make visible the goodness that God has given us by opening our hearts and extending our hands to those who can see us completely.

Prayer: Our Father, teach us not to live by appearances and superficial things. Help us to cleanse our hearts and be consistent with who we are, what we say, and what we do. Amen.

POR DENTRO Y POR FUERA

Lucas 11: 37-41

Limpian por fuera el vaso y el plato por fuera, pero por dentro están ustedes
 llenos de codicia y de maldad.

Lucas 11: 39

Jesús entra a la casa de un Fariseo y, sin seguir el ritual de lavarse las manos, revela algo mucho más profundo: la limpieza de la verdadera vida en Dios no está por fuera y ni en las apariencias, es una limpieza desde el interior, desde el alma.

No basta con cumplir normas externas que moldeen nuestra humanidad si estamos llenos de egoísmos, codicias e indiferencias. Perdemos la vida cuando nos alimentamos superficialmente por lo que se ve y no por lo que se siente. El rito que verdaderamente purifica es el acto de compartir, de servir con humildad, hacer justicia y amar verdaderamente.

Necios somos si creemos que Dios sólo nos mira por fuera. Aún estamos a tiempo de profundizar en nuestra limpieza física y hacerla hacia adentro, ir al interior de nuestro ser y hacer visible las bondades que Dios nos ha regalado abriendo nuestros corazones y extendiendo nuestras manos a quienes pueden mirarnos completamente.

Oración: Padre nuestro, enséñanos a no vivir de las apariencias y de las cosas superficiales. Ayúdanos a limpiar nuestros corazones y ser coherentes con lo que somos, decimos y hacemos. Amén.
