Repent with a sincere heart.

Matthew 3, 1-12

Bear fruit worthy of repentance.

Here is our beloved and faithful John the Baptist preparing the way for Jesus and calling to the people to repent. A people who wanted to be baptized: the poorest because they trusted that the Lord had good news for them, and those who governed because they claimed to be repentant of their sins, but continued to commit injustice.

John observes this and tells them that it is not enough to simply feel remorse; there must be tangible change that shows God’s authenticity.

Thus, repentance must be genuine, not remaining in words or in a rite, it must manifest itself in concrete actions. People who repent abandon their egotism, their injustices and hypocrisies and begin to live a life that honors God.

Loving God and our neighbor and showing compassion for those around us are some of the actions that we must practice and that reflect that a heart has returned to the Lord and has abandoned sin.

We must examine our lives and recognize when we have failed, returning ourselves to God with a heart ready for change, where our personal and communal transformation are the desired fruit.

Prayer: Beloved God, I acknowledge my need for repentance and ask you to help me not only to regret my sin but also to turn away from it, renouncing everything that displeases you and to produce worthy fruit that reflects your love and your justice. Amen.

Arrepentirse de corazón sincero.

Mateo 3, 1-12

"Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento "

Mateo 3:8

Aquí esta nuestro querido y fiel Juan el Bautista, preparándole el camino a Jesús, llamando al pueblo al arrepentimiento. Un pueblo que deseaba ser bautizado: los más pobres porque confiaban en que el Señor tenía buenas nuevas para ellos y los que gobernaban porque decían estar arrepentidos de sus pecados, pero seguían cometiendo injusticia.

Juan observa esto y les dice que no es suficiente solo sentir remordimiento, sino que debe haber un cambio tangible, que muestre la autenticidad de Dios.

Por tanto, el arrepentimiento debe ser genuino, no se queda en palabras o en un rito, debe manifestarse en acciones concretas. Las personas que se arrepienten, dejan de ser egoístas, injustas e hipócritas y comienzan a vivir una vida que honra a Dios.

Amar a Dios y a nuestro prójimo, demostrar compasión por los demás, son algunas de las acciones que debemos practicar y que reflejan que un corazón se ha vuelto al Señor y se ha alejado del pecado.

Necesitamos examinar nuestras vidas y reconocer donde hemos fallado, volviéndonos a Dios con un corazón dispuesto al cambio, donde nuestra transformación personal y comunitaria sean el fruto esperado.

Oración: Dios amado, reconozco mi necesidad de arrepentimiento y te pido que me ayudes a no solo lamentar el pecado sino apartarme de él, renunciando a todo aquello que te desagrada y a producir frutos dignos, que reflejen tu verdad, tu amor y tu justicia. Amén.
