WE ARE CHRISTIANS

Luke 12:49-53

Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, I have come instead to bring division.

Luke 12:51 (CEB)

Jesus speaks to his disciples about the division that his message will bring among people, including within families. From the perspective of the times, as much in his time as in our time, this passage invites a deep reflection on the cost of following Jesus in a world marked by injustice and oppression.

He did not come only to bring superficial peace, but to challenge the existing structures which perpetuate inequality. The division that he mentions could be a call to take a firm stand in favor of those who suffer, of the poor and marginalized. Following Jesus implies committing oneself to his cause, which often results in conflict with those who feel threatened by his blessings.

This message echoes today especially in our context where faith confronts unjust systems that prioritize power and money over human dignity and reminds us that being disciples of Christ means being available to face opposition and suffering for loving justice.

The division that the Gospel brings is not an end in itself, but a means to seek a radical transformation of society toward greater equity and solidarity.

Prayer: Lord, let us be agents of change, carrying your light to the people who are beneath the shadows of injustice. Give us your courage and perseverance to fulfill our responsibility. Amen.

SOMOS CRISTIANOS

LUCAS 12:49-53

¿Creen ustedes que vine a traer paz a la tierra? ¡Les digo que no, sino división!

Lucas 12:51

Jesús habla a sus discípulos de la división que su mensaje traerá entre las personas, incluso en el seno de las familias. Desde la perspectiva de los tiempos, tanto en su momento o en el que vivimos, este pasaje invita a una reflexión profunda sobre el costo de seguir a Cristo en un mundo marcado por la injusticia y la opresión.

Él no vino solo a traer paz superficial, sino a desafiar las estructuras existentes que perpetúan la desigualdad. La división que menciona pudiera ser un llamado a tomar una postura firme en favor de los que sufren, de los pobres y marginados. Seguir a Jesús implica comprometerse con su causa, lo que a menudo resulta en conflictos con aquellos que sienten amenazados sus beneficios.

Este mensaje hoy resuena especialmente en nuestro contexto donde la fe se enfrenta a sistemas injustos que priorizan el poder y el dinero sobre la dignidad humana y nos recuerda que ser discípulos de Cristo significa estar dispuestos a enfrentar la oposición y el sufrimiento por amor a la justicia.

La división que trae el Evangelio no es un fin en sí mismo, sino un medio para buscar una transformación radical de la sociedad hacia una mayor equidad y solidaridad.

Oración: Señor, permite que seamos agentes de cambio, llevando tu luz a las personas que están bajo las sombras de la injusticia. Danos de tu valentía y constancia para cumplir nuestra responsabilidad. Amén.
