EMPTY RELIGION OR LIVED FAITH

Luke 11:42-46

 

Woe to you Pharisees, who tithe mint, rue, and every kind of herb, but neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced this without neglecting that.

The Pharisees meticulously followed external rituals and the law, but on the other hand, they neglected the essential: justice and love of God. They liked to attract attention, greetings, the first places, and impose the heaviest burdens on others.

In this passage, Jesus strongly denounces the empty religiosity they practiced without living the true faith and manifestation of God’s love.

Are we more concerned with appearing to be good because of our responsibilities than with being righteous? Do we impose our rules without accompanying them with tenderness and respect? Do we forget compassion/mercy in order to look after our own interests?

The text invites us to practice our faith in accordance with our actions, to be more compassionate, humble, and to serve our neighbors. We can review our daily activities and be more ready to listen with empathy and walk together with less prejudice and more commitment. The practice of the good news is not a burden of principles and laws, but rather a practice of healing and liberation.

Prayer: Spirit of Life, forgive our impositions and injustice when we act as absolute owners of your Truth. Give us wisdom to be consistent with what we profess: your love. Amen.

RELIGION VACIA O FE VIVIDA

Lucas  11: 42-46

¡Ay de ustedes, fariseos!, que dan la décima parte de la menta, de la ruda y de toda clase de legumbres, pero descuidan la justicia y el amor de Dios. Debían haber practicado esto, sin dejar de hacer aquello

Los fariseos cumplían meticulosamente los rituales externos y la ley pero por otro lado, descuidaban lo esencial: la justicia y el amor a Dios. Les gustaba llamar la atención, los saludos, los primeros lugares e imponer a otros las cargas más pesadas.

En este pasaje, Jesús denuncia firmemente la religiosidad vacía que practicaban sin vivir la verdadera fe y la manifestación del amor de Dios.

¿Estamos más preocupados por aparentar ser buenos por nuestras responsabilidades que por ser justos? ¿Imponemos nuestras normas sin acompañar con ternura y respeto? ¿Nos olvidamos de la compasión/misericordia por velar por nuestros intereses?

El texto nos invita a practicar nuestra fe en coherencia con nuestro accionar, a ser más compasivos, humildes y servir al prójimo. Podemos revisar nuestro quehacer cotidiano y estar más presto a la escucha con empatía y caminar juntos con menos predisposición y más compromiso. La práctica de la buena noticia nos es una carga de principios y leyes, más bien, una práctica de sanación y liberación.

Oración: Espíritu de Vida, perdona nuestras imposiciones e injusticia cuando actuamos como dueños absolutos de tu Verdad. Danos sabiduría para ser coherentes con lo que profesamos: tu amor. Amén.
