WATCHMEN AND RESPONSIBLE ONES

Luke 12:39-48

Happy are the servants whom the master finds fulfilling their responsibilities when he comes.

Jesus uses this parable to emphasize the importance of reflecting on how we are acting as servants of the Lord. The faithful servant is the one who, aware of his or her responsibility, acts with integrity and commitment, while the unfaithful servant does not act in this way due to complacency and the abuse of power.

This duality resonates with the accentuated realities of inequality and poverty in these times, where leaders and power structures betray the trust deposited in them. Jesus’ warning about the punishment of the unfaithful servant underscores the gravity of failing in the responsibility toward others, especially toward the most vulnerable.

To be aware of our mission as “servants” in our context is a call to act with love and justice, promoting dignity and individual and collective rights.

Our faith should be translated into concrete actions that challenge unjust structures and promote the wellbeing of our communities. Ultimately, it invites us to be watchmen and watchwomen and to be responsible, not only in our personal life, but also in our social and political commitments.

Prayer: Lord, we ask your forgiveness for the times that we have not been faithful to the mission that you entrust to us. Give us your courage and perseverance to complete our responsibility. Amen.

VIGILANTES Y RESPONSABLES

Dichoso el siervo cuyo señor, al regresar, lo encuentra cumpliendo con su deber

Jesús utiliza esta parábola para enfatizar la importancia de la vigilancia y la responsabilidad en la vida cristiana. Este pasaje nos invita a reflexionar cómo estamos actuando como siervos del Señor. El siervo fiel es aquel que, consciente de su responsabilidad, actúa con integridad y compromiso, mientras que el siervo infiel se deja llevar por la complacencia y el abuso de poder.

Esta dualidad resuena con las realidades acentuadas de desigualdad y pobreza de estos tiempos, donde líderes y estructuras de poder traicionan la confianza depositada en ellos. La advertencia de Jesús sobre el castigo del siervo infiel subraya la gravedad de fallar en la responsabilidad hacia los demás, especialmente hacia los más vulnerables.

El ser conscientes de nuestra misión como "siervos" en nuestro contexto, es un llamado a actuar con amor y justicia, promoviendo la dignidad y los derechos individuales y colectivos.

Nuestra fe debe traducirse en acciones concretas que desafíen las estructuras injustas y promuevan el bienestar integral de nuestras comunidades. En última instancia, se nos invita a ser vigilantes y responsables, no solo en nuestra vida personal, sino también en nuestro compromiso social y político.

Oración: Señor, te pedimos perdón por las veces que no hemos sido fieles a la misión que nos encomiendas. Danos de Tu valentía y constancia para cumplir nuestra responsabilidad. Amén.
